No Shows

November 10, 2009

I had a no show yesterday, which is highly unusual. Most people come to their coaching appointments!

I called the client to make sure she had clear directions, since this was her first appointment, but she didn’t answer her phone. I got her voice mail and left her a message, but she hasn’t yet called me back. My first reaction was that she wasn’t serious about her appointment, but without knowing the actual story of why she didn’t show for her appointment, how can I possibly know? I could play the What If game, but it wouldn’t really accomplish anything at all, would it?

Instead, I have decided to let it be, and see what happens next, if anything. If not, then it’s a simple matter of, “Next…” and trusting that, for whatever reason, the universe has placed my potential client exactly where she needed to be and given me the space for another client.

There are no wasted moments, however. I used the time to catch up on my reading of Three Feet from Gold by Sharon Lechter and Greg Reid. It’s a delightful book, and I am gaining a lot of good advice from it.

So, remember, even in the face of adversity, there are blessings. Be open to the blessings, and recognize the moments when they appear.

Edit: She called me today and apologized for missing the appointment. She had been preoccupied getting ready for her daughter’s visit, and my voice message didn’t come through until TODAY (two days later!!!). She has rescheduled and it is very apparent that everything has worked out for everyone.
