YOU are a Super-Hero!

September 20, 2011

I happened across a new book recently. It is called The Seven Spiritual Laws of Super-Heroes, and it is written by Deepak Chopra, with his son, Gotham Chopra. Having owned a comic book store, and having been planning my own book about some of the great value to be found in comic book heroes, I was curious and had to have a copy.

Well, it’s nothing short of amazing! Chopra talks about the types of values that super-heroes have, and how we can cultivate those values in ourselves. I believe that it’s not so much about cultivating the values as it is discovering them and reclaiming them within ourselves.

The book I am planning has to do with the archetypes found in super-heroes, so it’s up the same alley. I found myself thinking, “Darn it! He beat me to it!” And then I realized that it is an awesome opportunity – he paved the way for MY book. I don’t plan on having my book ready for another year or so, but in the meantime, I am going to be doing workshops on some of the themes I found in Chopra’s book, combined with some of the information I have already collected for my own.

My first presentation will be for a group of teens at Phoenix Pagan Pride on October 15th. It will be an hour talk, but we will be doing some exercises to start accessing some of those special qualities. I think that some of these are especially great for teens to incorporate at their age – it will assist them with being strong and effective going forward in their lives.

I am also hoping to present a longer talk at Pantheacon in San Jose, CA in February 2012. In the meantime, though, I will be developing a day long workshop where people can literally find the energies within themselves and anchor them for easy access as needs arise. I’ll keep you posted on when I am offering the workshop in the Phoenix area.

In the meantime, please enjoy this rather rough draft of a talk I did a while back on archetypes in comics:
